Elite Sketches by Ryst-Airasee Elite Sketches by Ryst-Airasee
Old file, back from when I was figuring out Ryst's (and female Elites in general) build. The top two rows compare my two favorite takes on the Elite's build--Reach and Halo CE. Reach because there's much more attention to musculature, and they look powerful, monstrous, and intimidating; CE because they look refined, dignified, and intelligent.

The very bottom row is the build I settled on for Ryst (which is my standard for female Elites) compared to Fallout. She's got the overall build of a CE Elite with anatomical structure (most noticeably in the legs) of the Reach Elites.

For males, I still work entirely from the Reach build.

Art is mine.
Halo/Elites/Sangheili (c) 343i, formerly Bungie.

I really like the study you have here. Reach really made the elites better than ever, though I favored the boots from three, as far as armor goes. I don't know, I feel the feet before and after reach provided better balance for a creature without a tail (Which drove me nuts watching how the skirmishers ran, no tail in back to help them balance like they would need >.<. Bloody things should have been face planting with all their weight up front like that. XD)

So I have to say, it was interesting today, finding a 'visual' guide at the book store that talked about the reason for the new differences in armor between Reach/3 and 4. the armor is a specific design from one of the elite's border colonies. One that didn't even know of the Covenant Civil war until Jul was teleported there. Most fun to learn was that the new jackals, rather than being a re-imagining, are another subspecies like the Skirmishers. Still. The idea would have been driven home better if they had all three species in the same game. Same goes for the elites.

Haha, you're right--I never thought about the Skirmishers having a tail to counterbalance all that weight. I guess they just figured adding one would be a bit too much of a departure from the Jackals, subspecies notwithstanding.

And yeah, I agree. All those little details were just not touched on or mentioned at ALL comes off as not only confusing as to why everything looks different, but unfortunately lazy as well. 343i just didn't bother explaining everything in H4, instead relying on outside sources, which is one thing I think they definitely need to fix in upcoming titles.

It's really a failing on the series as a whole to leave the information in books. They really need to step up the story instead of new unnecessary plot devices like the Diadact and his forces. I would rather have seen more civil war. Especially since it has three sides now. And to help with that information, they could at least include an in-game codex. Like Mass Effect.

Ugh yeah, I know. Aside from making the plot so convoluted that even the creators are apparently having a hard time keeping a handle on it, dealing with the Civil War would have felt MUCH more Halo and would have the added bonus of leaving the Forerunners still a mystery, which I feel like was really key  to the basic vibe of Halo. Also it would allow them to keep key characters like Thel and Rtas in the picture instead of them suddenly being absent. An in-game codex would also have been a good idea. Your opinions, I like them.

Thank you. I have a lot of time to form them, and games to inspire them XD.  Anyway. I think the universe would have been bettered by the civil war's explanation and the return of old characters, instead of cutting -all- of the old characters except the chief. While I like that they tried to slip a bit more story in with the Chief and Cortana talking during the missions, I also think it was lost on most people, and in fact the writers, who did not use it to fill in the blanks for the player that ignores the outside sources. It wold have been very easy for Cortana to access the ship's records after they were aboard the Infinity, and help fill in the blanks for the Chief. Instead, they just did what Halo has always done: Here's your enemy, they don't like us. Shoot them.

I agree with the description, but I have to say that my favorite depiction of elites is the Halo 3 elites.
